I’m pretty sure you’ve heard the saying, “Life is full of choices”, Ha! Well I’ll be the first to agree with that statement. As bittersweet as having a choice can be, I think it would have been a better idea if God just went on and told us which one was better. A lot of people make bad choices and then blame them on other things, people and situations, when in actuality the choice was 100% yours!
Being “Christ like” is indeed a choice. You have to choose to do the right things, choose to accept Jesus as your savior and choose to change your lifestyle from that of the World. Just the other day I was tempted to act on an emotion, and Lord knows it would have been so much easier to choose to fall into temptation and act as if I didn’t know any better, but I had to make a conscious decision. I had to think about the consequences that came with my actions, I had to consider the long run and how it would affect not only myself but how God viewed me. Based on that I chose to pray for understanding and guidance. Was it easy? No! Of course not! Of course the devil would make falling easier than standing strong lol he wants to see you fall so he will do anything in his power to make it seem appeasing. Will I always make the right choice? Of course not, I’m not perfect so there are going to be times when I don’t make the right decisions and in that time I will have to accept the choice I made.
So when you’re faced with difficult decisions, don’t beat yourself up over trying to make the right choice. Just take a moment to calm yourself, pray for guidance and think on all that you have to lose. Ask yourself these questions: “Will this decision hurt others?” “Is this something that God will be pleased with?” “Will I suffer great consequences if I choose this way?” “Am I demonstrating and reflecting a Christ like image by doing this?” Granted all things are always working together for our good, we have to remember even the best of them were tested. Reflect on some of the old clichés you’ve heard over the years such as, “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.” “It’s not the situation its how you handle the situation.” Most importantly always try to be in control of your emotions. Most bad decisions were made out of emotion.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
