Happy Happy Hump Day to All!! Today’s scripture of the day is from John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
On the way to work this morning listening to Praise 104.1, the word of the day was based on John 10:25-27. For some reason John 10:27 stood out to me like a sore thumb. I wanted to emphasize on the scripture a little and I pray this will help you to understand the scripture in a deeper sense…
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
This scripture is short and simple in text yet full of detail. As it reads, “My sheep…” meaning you belong to him; he has claimed you as his own, therefore stating he has taken the place as your Shepherd. “…listen to my voice;” in this portion of the scripture Jesus is making a statement and a point that his sheep obey him, they listen to his voice which also informs us that they know the distinction. Bringing forth the realization that they know him well enough to hear him when he calls. See not everybody is able to distinct the still small voice, to be blessed enough to know this is Jesus speaking into my life and or over my life and to actually “listen” to the words being spoken. “I know them, and they follow me.” Yes, he knows us, each and everyone of us, he knows every single hair on our head, every tear we cry, every trial we face…he knows his sheep, his sheep that listen to him. Not only is he saying he knows them, but he said, “…they follow me.” By following him, studying in his word and having that time to meditate on the things of the Lord we learn to know his voice. As do sheep we are not to focus on the things of the world, but we are to be steadfast and keep a strong focus on following him, denying the flesh daily and living according to his will; allowing him to be our Shepherd and guide our paths.
